ResouRce Rite
ResouRceRite ResouRce Rite is the 'waste' component of the Tasmanian 'Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative' (AuSSI) run by SWSA. It replaces the 'Clean Schools Challenge', which was operating successfully in Tasmania for a number of years. Visy Recycling Clean Schools Challenge
Registrations for the Visy Recycling Clean Schools Challenge closed yesterday (5 May 2004). In all, 14 schools across southern Tasmania registered to take part in the Challenge:

  • Claremont Primary School
  • Dominic College
  • Howrah Primary School
  • Huonville Primary School
  • Lauderdale Primary School
  • Lindisfarne North Primary School
  • Mt Faulkner Primary School
  • New Norfolk Primary School
  • New Town High School
  • Ogilvie High School
  • Peregrine School
  • Sacred Heart Primary School
  • St Aloysius School
  • St Cuthbert's School


These schools will now have until 21 May 2004 to to get there base line audits back to the SWSA, indicating the prize division they wish to enter. Also, if applying for seed funding, these schools are reminded to develop their proposals and send them back to the SWSA before 30 July 2004.

Further details pertaining to the 2004 Challenge, including important dates, can be found in the Clean Schools Challenge section of this site. It is recommended that participating schools retain a hard copy for their records, marking all due dates on their calendars.

The SWSA today released a new resource package for schools, titled 'Managing Waste in your Community', aimed at supporting and strengthening the successful waste management and recycling programs that operate in southern Tasmania.

The package contains many useful facts and figures about recycling, making it the ideal resource for all types of classroom activities and projects.

A number of these kits are available for loan, by contacting any of the 12 southern Tasmanian councils, or alternatively, copies can be downloaded from the schools section of this site. More
