Beverage Waste

Firstly, consider Conducting an Audit to get your facts straight.

Then:

Reduce:

  • Reduce the need for stocking separate beverage bottles/cans by serving beverages from a beverage gun or dispenser. Buy bar mixes in concentrate form and buy milk in 10 litre bags from Tasmanian milk vendors.
  • Purchase beverages in returnable boxes or crates and ensure that these boxes and crates are collected by or returned to the vendor for reuse.

Reuse:

  • Purchase beverage glasses and cups that can be washed and reused.

Recycle:

  • Set up a recycling station with clearly marked bins for the various beverage containers and packaging. If possible purchase products or materials with recycled content and where possible, choose suppliers who provide recyclable packaging. Work with your recycling contractor to reduce contamination and ensure that these materials do get recycled.
  • If dispensing beverages into takeaway cups, ensure that these cups can be recycled (e.g. PET plastic).

Make your aims as public as possible. Inform staff about your intentions and why. Offer further incentives to staff to show your appreciation for their efforts. But remember, "waste reduction is everybody's responsibility".
