Wood/ Timber Waste

Firstly, consider Conducting an Audit to get your facts straight.

Then:

Reduce:

  • Only clean uncontaminated wood waste is suitable for reuse/ recycling (see guidelines in the Services Guide section of this site). Contamination can be avoided by sorting wood waste. This will reduce the amount disposed in landfill.

Reuse:

  • Wood waste that that has no commercial value in its primary form can be put to use in the production of secondary products such as amended soil products, wood chips, compost, mulch, animal bedding, firewood, fuel products for energy and associated industries, and feedstock for the manufacture of particle board.

Recycle:

  • Arrange to drop off suitable wood wastes to recycling centres or garden supply centres for reprocessing.
Make your aims as public as possible. Inform staff about your intentions and why. Offer further incentives to staff to show your appreciation for their efforts. But remember, "waste reduction is everybody's responsibility".
