Waste Management Facility Education

This program encourages operators to upgrade the image of their facilities and to contribute to the education of the community with respect to waste management.

Signage

The SWSA has established guidelines for the layout of new facilities as part of its Preferred wmf2Service Guidelines, to actively encourage the separation of recoverable materials and to move towards uniformity with respect to the signage used throughout the region.

The SWSA developed and produced a set of standard signage for segregated drop-off areas, such as Green Waste, Clean Fill, Tyres, etc. More than 300 such signs were produced and distributed to its member councils, and the Authority holds some stocks of this signage.

Reuse Centres

mpwtslogo The Authority has extended this program to assist in upgrading the image of Reuse Centres to approach that of mainstream retail. The SWSA established a grants program in 2003 to assist Reuse Centres within the municipal boundaries of its member councils to improve signage, display, and public education materials and facilities.

Grants of $1,000 each were approved recoveryshoplogo to Recovery Tas (Jackson Street) and Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station during the first round of funding, that closed on 31 October 2003.

It is intended that a further round of applications shall be invited in the future.
