Guidelines for Contractors

The economics associated with recycling vary from one location to another, and the capabilities of waste management contractors may also vary. In southern Tasmania the following materials are usually recyclable at major events:

• Glass bottles and containers
• Aluminium cans
• PET [1] plastic containers

Depending upon transport economics, a separate cardboard collection area for stall holders may be viable.

Event Organisers and Contractors should consult to establish:

• Which materials can be recycled?
• What is the contractor prepared to collect?
• What separate arrangements are necessary to cater for the garbage and recycling needs of stall holders?
• How many garbage/recycling bins are required for the event?
• Will the contractor arrange for the collection, assembly and return of bins?
• Who is to process the recyclables?
• What are the contractor's servicing and access requirements - what area and equipment (e.g. skips) are required?

The Event Organiser is responsible for all arrangements made with the waste contractor.
