Guidelines for Clean Teams
Research and experience show that maintaining a "clean = clean" theme at an event, is the best way to reduce litter. If the Clean Team does its job, the public will respond by helping. Picking up litter afterwards is usually very expensive.Placement of bins is important, as is regular servicing. Aim to keep tables clean at all times, and pick up litter around the site.
Research by Community Change suggests that 12 metre spacing between bins is recommended at Major Events. However, experienced Clean Teams will know that extra garbage bins may be needed in heavy use eating areas.
Remember to take an empty bin with you when carrying out servicing.
It is recommended that a recycling bin is always placed next to a garbage bin. The recycling bin should preferably be fitted with a lid containing a rosette, which is secured closed to discourage contamination.
Ensure that garbage and recyclables are stored in separate locations after servicing.
