Who is Responsible?
Who's responsible for waste?
The simple answer is everyone. It is your responsibility to properly manage the wastes that are generated by your lifestyle choices.

Whilst your local Council provides a range of home waste management services, it remains the responsibility of the individual to use these services correctly.
Check out the Understanding Waste Management and Services Guide sections of this website, for hints on how to reduce the amount of waste you generate, or re-use items you would otherwise have disposed of.
Find out what services exist in your area - whether kerbside recycling, 'Tip-Shops', recycling drop-off centres, on-call collection services etc. The markets for 'recyclable' materials vary from one location to another, depending on factors such as volume and freight costs - check with your Council to see what can be recycled, and how it should be presented to the recycler. Learn to recognise which symbols apply to the plastics that are recyclable in your area.
Away from home, there are a growing number of initiatives that support the 3R's of waste. When visiting a park, reserve or public place, you are responsible for the correct disposal of your waste. If recycling stations are in place, separate your recyclables from your garbage, and dispose of both correctly.
