Waste Reduction Objectives

  • Set up waste minimisation in every classroom, administration department of the school and in the playground.
  • Develop awareness and a culture of waste minimisation within the school community.

Actions

  • Develop curriculum material to encourage and highlight waste minimisation.
  • Set up a paper recycling program to be managed by the students.
  • Set up a composting program to be managed by the students.
  • Re-use plastic shopping bags, cardboard, plastic bottles, milk cartons, egg cartons, and other plastic containers.
  • Composting green waste from the school grounds.
  • Establishing worm farms.
  • Vegetable plots to use compost material.
  • Develop a playground litter policy.
  • Regular community litter clean ups and monitoring.

Outcomes

  • Waste within the school has been reduced.
  • Successful recycling and composting programs are in place.
  • Students, staff and the parent community support and are aware of the need to reduce waste.
