Waste Reduction Objectives
- Implementation of a recycling program into the school in several stages, including the collection and recycling of plastic yoghurt containers, food waste, and paper.
Actions
- Whole school assembly to inform all children of the program.
- Purchase of bins, worms and compost.
- Establish rosters for students to put out bins.
- Designated areas tidied for bins.
- Items placed in school newsletter for the interests of informing the wider school community.
- Visit from Anne-Marie Aherne from the Clarence City Council.
- Follow-up assemblies after holiday break.
- Distribution of containers and lids to all classes.
- Identification of the issues pertaining to stormwater, paper and plastics, as they effect the school.
Outcomes
- Less food waste and plastic containers ending up in the garbage stream and waterways.
- A rise in community awareness of the school's project.
- Students becoming more responsible for their environment and the impact they can have on it.
- successful educational programs run for both students and parents.
- The project is moving towards a whole school adoption.
