Very large range of materials including inorganic chemicals such as some garden fertilizers, pool chemicals etc, and organic chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, solvents, and detergents. Can range from quite harmless to hazardous substances, either alone or in combination with other chemicals.

It is generally wise to use chemicals only for the purpose intended, and as instructed by the manufacturer. There are a growing number of manufacturers offering buy-back and collection schemes for their products, and other businesses that specialize in particular chemicals. The Chemcollect program aims to coordinate such activities. Re-use or disposal may require expert knowledge - check with your local Council.
